Let’s be honest, we all want the latest tech but don’t want to break the bank, so we set out to find the best time of year to buy the major devices out there:
- TVs
- Smartphones
- Computers
- Smartwatches
- Tablets
TVs
This one is actually an easy one, Black Friday! Every year without fail Black Friday produces the best offers for TVs, especially for newer models. Cyber Monday can be a great time too usually for older models. Deals on TV extend all the way to the New Year so if you are not in a rush and don’t see the model you want on offer, don’t fret it still may come.
Smartphones
Now Smartphones can be trickier, competition is fierce between the likes of Apple and Samsung and with more brands fighting their way to the top you may think they would compete with discounts too but that is rarely the case. With that being said, for new models, the best time to buy is actually during the preorder period which tends to come a few days after the announcement of the device. Here they will offer the best deals with trade-ins or simply include extra accessories but if buying through a courier they may also offer buy one get one free or credit with the carrier. But some deals only apply if you are switching carriers so keep that in mind.
However, if you are looking for an older model then the timing is a little later, with the best time being during the month leading up to the release of the newest models, often prices are reduced on the last year and discontinued models. Don’t expect any goodies, just a reduction in price.
Computers
In this case, there are two different times depending on what you are looking for, during back-to-school season and Black Friday. As you may expect, back-to-school offers are normally on notebooks, small laptops, 2-1 laptops and basic desktops. These offers run from June through to beginning September. For those students looking for Apple devices, check out authorised Apple resellers as they tend to have great student discounts.
The Black Friday season starts with the cheaper systems flooding the sales with basic processors making up the bulk of the offers. The lead up to Thanksgiving brings a greater chance to save with better systems appearing with great offers. Here you will find the likes of powerful gaming laptops and desktops on offer.
Smartwatches
When it comes to Smartwatches there really isn’t a best time, being a modern fashion accessory but yet so much more you’ll find sales throughout the year, in fact as I write this Amazon has sales planned throughout all of June, you will find sales during the major sales and as with the announcements of newer models expect prices to drop on older models leading up the new release.
Tablets
As tablets do not come with contracts they tend to be released yearly. Meaning every year you will find great deals and with more brands and models available I suggest setting a limit and keeping an eye out. You will find great deals online throughout the year on the likes of Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, NewEgg. Also during all the major holiday seasons, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Boxing Day etc.
